Guerilla Marketing Campaigns that Rocked

As a Chicago Marketing Company, we love a great guerilla marketing campaign when we see one.  After working with a client who was looking for top-notch guerilla marketing tactics to implement to help sell her book, we were inspired by incredible guerilla marketing campaigns that were done in the past.  Here are a couple awesome guerilla marketing campaigns:

Renaming Halfway, Oregon to Half.com, Oregon for an entire year:

This is perhaps one of the "stranger" guerilla marketing tactics we've seen.  Even as a creative marketing company, this one surprised us.  In 1999, half.com asked the small pacific town of Halfway, Oregon to change its name to half.com, Oregon.  The town accepted unofficially and was given $110,000, 20 new computers for its schools and other undisclosed items.  At the town's borders passersby saw "America's First Dot-Com City."  The website got what it wanted, more traffic and the town had a very interesting story to tell.

IKEA at the beach:

IKEA decided to celebrate the birthday of one its most popular bookshelving units by setting one up at popular Australian Beach known as Bondi Beach.  The bookshelving unit was fully stocked with literary classics and summer-based books.  Beach-goers were delighted to see the bookshelving unit stocked with new reading options rather than the ones they brought with them.  IKEA also gave the option to donate to the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation.  This guerilla marketing tactic received a lot of positive press for a one-day-only stunt!

Pandas in Paris:

By 2008, studies showed that there was only 1,600 wild pandas left in the world.  The World Wildlife Foundation decided to raise some awareness in a big way.  They created hand-made, papier mache pandas and placed them all around various locations in Paris.  While the pictures from this guerilla marketing tactic were striking, it left a last impression on those who saw it.  Viewer realized rather quickly that what they were seeing were the last pandas left on earth.  The campaign had a huge emotional impact and is still talked about years later.

Red Bull pit crew:

Red Bull, known in the industry for successful guerilla marketing, executed a marketing stunt right in Times Square, NYC with a Nascar-style pit stop.  Getting attention from New Yorkers is already a struggle competing with billboards, street signs and overall crowded streets, but Red Bull's street session was a huge success.

Oscar Mayer Wienermobile (The classic)

Perhaps the most classic of the bunch, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile started driving down the road in the 1930s, catching the attention of drivers everywhere.  The Wienermobile, driven by "Little Oscar," would visit stores, schools, orphanages, and children's hospitals and also participated in parades and festivals.  What a perfect guerilla marketing tactic!  It is original and is still in existence today.  The mobile also has it's own blog.  The Wienermobile still catches the same attention it did in the 30s.

Business Blogging & Time Management Tips

Business blogging is not easy as owners or those who write for businesses are expected to be great writers on top of being an expert in their field. The combination is not easy to come by, and there is typically so much going on in a business at any one time, taking time away to write a blog can seem inconceivable. It can't be denied that engaging an audience can be difficult at times, but there are ways around this time-sucker. You should also not discount blogging as a way to benefit your business all for the positive. Here are some tips to get around the time issue and also to become a more prepared business blogger.

  1. Plan: Planning is key to building a great following and some great posts. Take 10 minutes (literally) and think of a few things you could talk to your customers about. Are you an attorney? Talk about issues previous clients have faced (the issues, not the clients) and give a solution to the problem. Perhaps some of your readers are facing the same issues and would give you a call to talk about how you get the same great results for them.
  2. Schedule: Get yourself on a schedule so you don't forget to keep blogging. Some people will start out gung-ho, go-getter, "yeah we're gonna blog!" ... and then stop. Put it on your calendar and make time for it. This blog? It's been 5 minutes since I got the idea, and it won't put a dent in my day.
  3. Stay Focused: Don't let people pull you away from what you're doing or it really will take you all day to write a blog. Tell them you need some privacy for 15 minutes (or 30 or however long you need) and to not disturb you. Blogging is an important part of marketing your business and they should respect that.
  4. Use WordPress or Blogger: Stumped on WHERE to blog? Use a free account like Wordpress.com or Blogger.com to build your blogging repertoire. If you've got the type of website that allows for adding a blog into the mix, do that instead. Having an on-site blog is much more professional than using one outside the realm of your current website.
  5. Writing: If you don't feel comfortable putting your ideas and words on paper, hire a ghost writer to write blogs for you. They'll be able to research your industry, take ideas straight from you, and build a following for you without you having to schedule your day around it. It can cost a few hundred dollars a month, but when you think about it - if the returns outweigh the cost, it's more than worth it.

Dental Marketing and Website SEO

Chicago Dental Website SEO Marketing

As a dentist, you know that you are only as good as the tools and techniques you use to practice dentistry. Advertising your practice is no different. It is only through the use of the latest dental marketing techniques that you can hope to continue to generate increased traffic in the form of new customers. Today, this means utilizing the Internet, mobile and social media marketing to create a dentist advertising program that will be successful.

Any Chicago dental marketing program must be based on the latest Internet Marketing strategies. Today this means staying abreast of the latest optimization strategies, blogging, and more. Remember that, especially in the case of optimization strategies, changes happen on a weekly basis. It is critical to constantly review the latest industry information regarding optimization strategies. For example, Google, still the best search engine for relevancy, recently made changes to its indexing formula and, most notably, lowered its acceptable keyword density standard.

The increasing popularity of ‘smart’ phones means creating websites that are viewable on mobile browsers. The growing popularity of net-books and tablet computers will also necessitate changes in dentist advertising techniques. It is likely that more and more websites will be designed to allow for easy touch screen use.

Social media marketing is the final element in the advertising dentists must utilize to be successful. Social media is still exploding in popularity and growth, with Facebook having over 500 million registered users.  Tapping into this community is critically important. Take some time to consider a previously popular method of advertising on the Internet: client or patient reviews. Many users turned to these reviews to get recommendations for a dentist – until the public became aware of the fact that many businesses were actually buying good reviews. Social media neatly combats this overwhelming ‘trust’ issue by providing a community or network of friends and family – always a reliable source for recommendations.

In order to effectively market your dentistry office, it is critical that you implement a strategy that is based on the latest technologies and strategies. By remembering how smart Internet users are and implementing a plan that is designed around technology and integrity, it is possible to generate increased traffic to not only your website but also your office. Maybe it’s time to make some changes to your marketing plan.

Dental Web Design & Dentistry Marketing

Dental Web Design Example
The best dental website design is always personalized to the dental practice and their unique offerings. Otherwise it ends up being a personal website. You need to show the dental practice, your expert team, and your uniqueness to generate leads from your website.

You need to know who you are, what you can offer, how you ARE perceived and how you WANT to be perceived. Also, you need to know who your patients are and what they respond to. You may think you know, but will be surprised when you don't. You can check this by conducting surveys of your patients before the web design & development begins. You can use surveymonkey.com or you can use a paper survey. On survey monkey there is the FREE option to run a dental marketing survey that can be emailed to your patients.

In dental marketing, relevance is crucial. If your website is not relevant to your target patient audience, they will quickly leave your dental website. You need to make your website relevant by:

1) Attractive Design
The right design and branding will have the correct appeal. There is a great lack of good dental logo designs in the market, and if yours isn't up to snuff, it might be time to rebrand your practice.

2) Credibility
Photos of your team are expected. Photos of your smiling patients will prove to patients that you are the expert. Hot buttons on your home page can show off special offers and key treatments, this will establish what you’re about within seconds of glancing at your home page. Also, use social media. If you're online elsewhere, your patients and potential customers will be more likely to use you. If you need help launching a social media marketing campaign for your dental practice, contact Integraphix at 847.537.0067.

3) Affordability
Special offers and a transparent fee structure will further reassure website visitors. Patients are looking for evidence of fixed pricing.

4) Contactability
Show your telephone number clearly at the top of every page, feature your address, have an email form and an online appointments facility on your dental website. A lot of your visitors will be your own patients simply trying to access your website for basic contact details so make the experience easy for them. These days, patients will be using an iPhone, Blackberry or other smart phone while on the move so make sure your website is compatible.

5) Regular Updates
Make your website have a genuine “Point of Difference” by personalising and individualising it. Personalising your website will minimize the chances of visitors ‘skimming’ it and quickly leaving. Instead, make your website the ‘destination’ dentist website where patients want to keep coming back. Having a blog and updating your website on a weekly, if not daily, basis with your latest special offers, patient smiles and video testimonials will increase your returning visitors and word-of-mouth!

Your website is simply a reflection of your dental marketing strategy. Be different; stand out by standing for something.
